Until the Race is Over by Lyka Caparos

Rico wishes Lianne back in his life, but because of that viral article that Traecy posted on their school paper’s website, it appears to be impossible for them to be together again. Traecy on the other hand, had only one wish for her birthday, to spend it with the one she admires since high school – Rico Avila. How can fate brings the two together in a race that would definitely reveal small discoveries that can lead to two choices: either to tear them apart or hope for a more unexpected relationship?
Excerpt of Until the Race is Over
“When I see her, I always feel na gusto ko siyang kausapin. I want to keep her nearer and nearer to my world. It breaks my heart whenever I saw her talking to someone else. Na parang naka move on na siya in just two damn months.” He said laughing though I know he’s deeply hurt, then continued, “She doesn’t realize how hurt I was. She doesn’t even care about me anymore. Ang daling kalimutan para sa kanya ang mga pinagdaanan namin.
But for me, it hurts like hell.”
“Mahirap ang makamove on. Mahirap ang makalimot. Mahirap ang magbigay ng payo lalo na kung wala ka naman sa lugar. Pero gusto ko lang sanang sabihin sayo na… libre ang maging masaya Rico. It really takes a lot of time para makalimot, and it takes a lot of courage to stand up for yourself and to love yourself this time. Alam kong… hindi ako ang tamang taong magbigay sayo ng advice para sa ganyang bagay pero sana makatulong ako. Sana kahit hindi mo ako ganoon ka kilala, sana maalala mo man lang ang mga sinabi ko…
“Looks like you’re good at advising ha. Sige nga, can you give me your final blow?”
I smiled and cleared my throat before saying anything.  “If you’ve given a great love to someone before and that person never gave it back to you… someone will.”

The best scene from the book that I liked most is:
Every part of my story is important. It plays a vital scene, even a tiny part of it. What I loved the most was when…
dialogue
It was the part when Rico was jealous! Poor Traecy, she didn’t notice a single thing! Haha!
 Overall this book is:
Well, I’ve written a lot of stories and honestly, this is the one that I think it’s fully furnished (less grammatical errors, typo errors and well planned). It’s funny how my story ends. It’s funny how I’m so serious looking at the monitor every time I search for errors and if I needed to add something or delete some scenes. And yes, I finally survived. What an indeed challenge for myself. And this is the product of my hardships. It ends well. I gave life to them. After finishing the ending part, I suddenly realized how much I learned to loved them — all characters in “Until the Race is Over”. It’s funny how I made my reaction while writing the two last words — “The End”. Like, Hey! I’m finally a writer! Although I’ve done so many stories but this is different from those. I felt my heart jump for joy. It’s something that I can be proud of as an author.
“Until the Race is Over” is one of my amazing stories. It’s all about moving on from a heartache and seeing a brighter light with no drama. It’s about forgiving yourself first before others. Forgiving yourself because you accept that you made a mistake and let it healed. That makes you feel less hurt.
Painful things come in our life a hundred times. You can’t just hide from it or turn your head just because you hate it. You need to accept, feel and let go. Emotions are meant to be felt not to throw away, nor keep inside your drawer and lock it. Because the moment you did that, you are just making it hard for yourself. Learning to love yourself is the greatest love of all as what Whitney Houston said in her song. So if you’re heartbroken or whatever, feel it, then let go. It’s your choice to be happy or to remain torturing yourself. Life is beautiful, it should not be wasted.
To the author: Thumbs up! Haha!

It’s been awhile! I was so busy these past days that I can’t publish this post. Anyway, I’m still keeping my promise about “every book deserves to have a reviews” :’) I will post the others soon!

On the Outside Looking In by Claire Du

Seventeen-year-old Freya Mahilum has always been in love with football hotshot Ezra Montelibano. Ezra, who’s too caught up with family pressures and his so-called girlfriend to pay attention to a geek obsessed with him. Freya knows she’d never stand a chance with him, but then fate conspires to bring them together. Will getting to know each other prove that love knows no boundaries or will they find that they’re better off existing in two separate worlds?
Excerpts of On the Outside
“Come on! We need those points! Run for it!” someone shouted from the benches. I knew that was Ezra’s ever-supportive dad who cheered for him at every game. I’ve been to all of them, too.
“Duck!” another spectator shouted.
My eyes followed Ezra, and I saw that he was running toward me. He was looking right at me! I wondered why.
*BAM!*
A football hit me in the face, blocking me from seeing the love of my life.
“Oww! That hurts!” So that was how people in Tube’s Funniest Videos felt. It wasn’t funny at all.
I held my face in my hands. It hurt so much that I thought my head cracked and I’d feel blood trickling on my arms. The football was there, lying innocently next to my feet.
“Hey, can you throw the ball back?”
Oh my freakin’ ball of fire. That was HIS voice. I composed myself and slowly raised my eyes. Unconsciously, I batted my eyelashes, so he could see how long they were. His hair was ruffled, his forehead glistened with sweat, and he had these lines between his eyebrows as a result of him frowning. But that face, with the thick brows, piercing brown eyes, and those lips that looked better when he smiled—that was the face I couldn’t seem to get tired of staring at.
“Here you go. And don’t worry, it’s totally okay. These things happen to people,” I mumbled.
I couldn’t stop from smiling widely even though I knew I had a big, red splotch on my forehead. Add to that my uncombed hair and the tears that were about to fall due to pain, and you have a good idea how pretty I felt right at that moment. Not.

Overall this book is:

I can’t help myself to read and read until the end. The words that the author used was catchy and easy to understand. I feel like I’m watching a movie. There was a time that I hate Freya for being stupid and for Ezra for being the most stupid.

When I read this story, I keep highlighting some parts and writing comments:

  • Ow! That hurts Frey
  • Destiny really wants them to be together! HAHA! Perfect timing and chance for Freya.
  • Ezra! I hate you!
  • Poor freya! tss!
  • Maybe Francis have some sort of feeling towards Freya. Oh well, I think, he’s better than idiot Ezra.
  • Yes, sometimes in our life, we loved the wrong people and hate the wrong people. That’s life.
  • No! You’re not alone. Francis was with you all the time!
  • A big clap for Ezra! Finally shows his conscience, after what he just did to Frey.
  • Damn, she’s such a bitch!
  • Freya was stunning! I kept on imagining her. Looks pure and gorgeous.
  • O my, this scene is wonderful! Keeping my heart smile like an idiot.
  • I am reading? I think not. I’m watching a romantic movie right know and I’m about to scream!
  • Oh, what a wrong timing
  • Wooa! I wasn’t expecting this.
  • There he goes.
  • I’m beginning to like you Ezra.
  • The litany begins! Haha
  • You finally notice her, no?
  • I want that Umbra!
  • I love this

Wow. I just realized that I wrote so much comment in this book. That’s because, I was so dragged by this story. It’s simple, yet it’s wonderful. Indeed a masterpiece. This story is about believing about what’s inside your heart no matter what the outcome is. Be brave to show your true happiness.

To the author: Thanks for that “Umbra”. Another added knowledge to my brain. HAHA!

Second Review

In That Summer by Jayen San Diego

Senior high school student Jane Enriquez is the ‘dream-girl’ of all male students at Southridge Montessori. Well, except the geeky student leader Sean Villamayor. Opposing from the start, Sean never expected Jane would become his partner for this year’s Summer Camp Immersion. Will this be their worst summer? Or will it turn out to be different?
Excerpt of In That Summer
“Ordinary? Are you really that blind, Sean?” Red asked.
Sean self-consciously adjusted his eyeglasses and added, “Well, she’s not that stunningly pretty. I even doubt if she still looks cute without her makeup on. She’s only here because she’s the chairman’s daughter.”
Red did not say anything, and Sean already knew that it was the end of their conversation.
“Are you done with the supplies?”
Sean was startled when he heard Jaine’s voice come from behind Red. He glanced at Red, who looked equally surprised by her presence.
Did Jaine hear what I said? Sean wanted to ask.
When neither of the guys answered her, Jaine added, “There are still a few boxes in the stock room. And Miss Darson said you should hurry up.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Red responded.
He gave Jaine a playful salute and his infamous smile. Other girls would have swooned at this. Sean noted that Jaine wasn’t even slightly affected. Maybe Sean was wrong. Maybe Jaine wasn’t like every other girl.
Red left, enthusiastically roping other basketball team members into helping him on his way to the stock room. Sean turned his attention back to his task. He expected Jaine to leave, having accomplished her task. But she stayed and stared at him.
He wanted to ignore her, but he was surprised to find he felt self-conscious. He then reasoned to himself that it was just because he wasn’t use to working with someone watching him.
“Do you need anything else?” he asked without looking up from his checklist of supplies.
He waited, but Jaine just continued to stare. Irritated, he finally stopped working and gave her the attention she wanted.
“Do you need anything else, Miss Jaine Enriquez?” he asked again, giving emphasis to his formal way of addressing her.
To his bemusement, Jaine smiled. Her whole face brightened up when she did. And Sean was reminded of this season, of summer. He knew she wasn’t ordinary. But Sean would never admit he’d been wrong.

Lol! Sean is so cute! What a real commedian. He deserves a slooow clap! Haha!

Overall this book is:
I love it. The plot is well-planned. The grammar is perfect. Though the story is usual but it’s really great. The characters have some kind of power to lure the readers to their world. To laugh, to be sad, to look for their weaknesses and to the better side, everything!
This story tackles about relationship to a mother, a friend and a special someone. It’s about learning to give a second chance because everyone deserves it. While reading, I was imagining my mother and me doing an act. I miss her already.
Okay, stop the drama. Meanwhile, Jaine and Sean are so cute! Every scene, I was so very focus, I admired Sean mischievous/naughty side. I also admired his relationship with Red, respect above all. A real best friend. Red is more of a hunk kid (I think so, haha!). I’m looking forward to his story with Gracie. Pretty please!? I think it’ll be another great story of yours Jayen!
To the author: Keep it up! Red and Gracie, please?

My Bucket List ♚

11107737_10205801192329643_7360937686197098186_n

I was grateful that I finally published my work as an EBook and hopefully it will be a book soon! (I wish!). Joining workshop of Summit Media (BuqoYA) created a turning point in my life where I realized something important is happening to me, something that I discovered hidden from the deepest part of my heart.

Let’s go back from where it started. Before, I was just fond of reading books, making stories on my own using a notebook and a pen. It’s started when I was in my high school years. I was reading my story when my classmate read it and share it to others, napunta pa sa ibang sections ang story na ginawa ko until ng bumalik sa akin, gutay-gutay na na parang tinorture at ginahasa. I was hurt seeing my own story being like “murdered” but I was surprised when they are talking to me like “Ang ganda ng story mo! Sana may part two!”, “Gawan mo din ako please? Bigyan kita notebook and ballpen!” “Ako rin!”. Naging instant popular ako after nilang ibalik sa akin ang kawawa kong notebook and I was like “Really? Nagustuhan niyo kahit maraming erasures?” I can’t imagine how everyone was happy reading my story. Pinatawad ko nalang sila sa ginawa nila because I knew that somehow, I made them happy. It was really an amazing part my life. But I don’t label myself as an author (before). For me, it was just for fun. Until I became conscious that something is lacking in my life. Parang kahit anong gawin kong ibang bagay, hindi ako kontento. I was pursuing a degree of Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Biological Science. Nagtapos na ako but I don’t work as a teacher. Because I want something in my life that I think is better than pursuing a degree that is far beyond the expectations of my heart. My sister introduced a website called Wattpad—a world designed for an author and a reader. I tried it and after waiting for someone who can read my story, I was surprised to see that they love it, they love the characters and how the story is going on. Their eagerness to read my updates made me excited to write day by day. And I suddenly understand what my heart wants.

It’s to write a story that will be loved by many. A story that will bestow moral lessons in life. A story that is coming from my heart. A story that has a heart and soul. A masterpiece.

Until now, I was still savoring my success in life. A success that finally opens my heart to what I truly desire from the very beginning. I finally appreciate who I was, why I was born and what my worth is. I was born to write. I was born to be an author. An author that will be remembered someday.

I am an author by heart, by soul and by life.

Being one of the authors who joined this workshop (buqoYA) is such an honor and a dream came true. At last! Natupad ko na rin ang pangarap ko! (sabi ko sa sarili ko). All the headaches, writer’s block and sleepless nights just constructing an outline, plotting, editing and so much more were replaced by happiness and pleasures when I finally done and submitted it to Ms. Mina, the final revision of my story. I still remember deleting some scene na pinaghirapan kong isipin but for the sake of making my story much better, I needed to sacrifice those lines and remove it. And for you to know, my story that I entered in buqoYA is all about a wish that she (Traecy) wanted to fulfill as a gift for her 18th birthday.

And later, you will find out if that wish came true. If you buy a BuqoYA Bundle 4 Heart Choices! 6 great authors and 6 amazing stories including mine! (UNTIL THE RACE IS OVER) Click this Link
